About Me

Hello! My name is Karin, and I must admit I am a bit of a botany nerd, forage-grazing consultant and advocate, bovine enthusiast, nature adorer, and environmentalist. 

I was born and raised on a mixed farm in the demographical “northern” part of Alberta, Canada, and have a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Animal Science and also holding an unofficial minor in Rangeland, Forage, and Pasture Management. Through farm life and university, and ever since I was a small child, I’ve always been fascinated with nature, from tiny insects to the tall trees that sway in the wind.  

Photography has been a passionate hobby of mine, thanks to my father starting me out with a simple point-and-shoot 35mm film camera. He encouraged me to pursue photography of some form or other. I found it a great way to express my creativity, and thus I began to take it up as a hobby in my teens. It’s a fascinating hobby that hasn’t stopped.

My photography skills are self-taught. I learn as I go; the more photos I take, the more I improve my photography skills. And the more skilled I get, the better my photos turn out! Personally, I’ve noticed this since I bought my first DSLR Canon camera.

It makes this hobby well worth the effort.

I love taking photos whenever I get the opportunity. I make sure I always have a camera on me, no matter if it’s my iPhone XR or my Canon Rebel EOS T6i with telephoto, macro, and wide-angle lenses at my side; whichever is most handy at the moment they’re needed! I still hang on to my Canon Rebel XS… just in case I need an extra camera body.

I’ve been meaning to create a website such as this, but haven’t had the chance to… until now.

I hate to admit it, but after keeping over 24,000 photos (I’m not kidding!!) on the Cloud, it’s about time that I find some way of publicly displaying the best photos that I’ve taken so far.

A great way to showcase such photos is to accompany them with a short little story that often goes with them. 

You’ll have to forgive me for not going to an enormous effort to really edit my photos to that of near-professional quality. Most of the photos shared here have either not been edited, or only slightly improved beyond their “raw” format. My only excuse is that I’m an amateur photographer. I know there is a lot of potential for improving the quality of my best photographs; in the future, I may consider investing in a good photo editing software program such as Adobe Lightroom or similar. For now, please excuse the beginner-type laziness until I change my habits!

Fair Warning: Do not be surprised if you see that I’ve mentioned both the scientific and the common name of a flora subject I captured in my lenses. However, I can’t guarantee I’ll do the same with the wildlife I’ve photographed, from bugs to elk.
