Geese Over Water

It was springtime, out bird-watching at an undisclosed location, and then we had these Canada geese deciding to come in and land. Location near Stettler, AB, Canada, taken on May 26, 2018, with a Canon XS Rebel DSLR with a Canon EF 70=300 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM telephoto lens.
A Stormy Pyramid Lake

A Stormy Pyramid Lake

A few years ago my mom and I took a few days to visit some favourite places in Jasper National Park for my birthday. This is one of those places, looking across Pyramid Lake from the island you can hike to from the lodge.

Kinsella Cows

Kinsella Cows

These Angus and Angus-cross cow-calf pairs were just standing out on pasture in some hay that was laid out for them because the spring grasses weren’t quite enough to supply them yet. They are a part of a grazing operation on the University of Alberta’s Kinsella (now Roy Berg’s) Research Ranch near Kinsella, Alberta, over 100 km east of Edmonton.

Taken on May 20, 2014, with my old Canon Rebel XS DSLR camera with a Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM telephoto lens.

Honeybee on a Gerbera

Honeybee on a Gerbera

Bees, honeybees (as this one above) or bumblebees or any other native pollinators, are pretty important for a lot of plants to be able to pollinate plants so those plants can produce seeds and start a new generation.

People of the Grasslands

People of the Grasslands

What a beautiful day that was to be out on the prairie, looking at grass. Yes, that’s what we were doing, as part of a grazing school I attended. We ventured out on these landscapes to physically see just how much area a single cow needs to feed herself for one day; all to learn better grazing management practices.

The prairie is host to quite the abundance of life, though, more than just grass to support some cows. It’s a landscape we humans need as well…
